All parts of Lily of the Valley are toxic to rabbits. If you suspect your rabbit has eaten any, take him to the vet IMMEDIATELY. I don%26#039;t know if it%26#039;ll kill the rabbit, but it will definitely make him sick.

Has anyone been able to grow lily of the valley in Adelaide?

Let me preface this by saying I don%26#039;t live there. However, Lilly of the Valley is my Wife%26#039;s favorite plant. It grows in the US to Zone 8. It likes it colder than that, and mostly shade. Our zone goes down to 20 Degrees F in the winter. The following is extracted from Wikipedia (then I will sumarize what I think):
The Australia Continent, though surrounded by ocean, is drier than Europe or North America. Australia numbers its climate zones differently, but this system can be translated into the North American systems with minimal effort. Plant hardiness refers to survivability of the conditions of a particular location, including heat tolerance, soil moisture, humidity and so on. This map is based only on how well they survive low winter temperatures; a gross oversimplification. For example, are plants affected more by a single extremely low temperature night, or is the number of days of frost (the duration of winter) more important? In fact both are important, but the statistic for the map only relates directly to the former. Moreover, plants will survive in an area for some time, but a rare catastrophic cold snap will kill them. Some risk evaluation - the probability of getting a particularly severe low temperature - often would be more useful rather than just the average conditions.
You are in Australia Zone 4. Because of the warmer seaboard, covers a broad area from coastal Queensland across to Shark Bay and Geraldton in the west, and includes the Mornington Peninsula, areas adjacent to Spencer Gulf and Adelaide, the south western coastal zone, Sydney and the north coast of NSW, along with a number of localities dotted all around the southern coast of the continent.%26quot;

it is about twice the thickness of a human hair. no evident segmentation. wiggles alot when touched.

Reply:The absolute best way to identify it is to take it to your local nursery, not one of the big chains because they usually do not have enough people working to help you. Your local nursery and garden store will have experts that will already be familiar with that worm, and how to get rid of it, if it is a nuisance.

Why did my planted potted lily of the valley stall out?
I bought some LOV pips from Home Depot, half of which looked kinda dried out but i gave them all a chance in a pot anyway. One of the pips took off and i have a one inch shoot (really more of a curled in leaf) that came up pretty quickly. Problem is, it hasn%26#039;t done anything since then, and its been almost 2 weeks! Why did this little guy stop growing, and how can i get him going again? And is there anything i can do for the other pips that haven%26#039;t come up at all? I potted in Miracle Grow potting mix and have them on a shaded window. Thanks!

Also you might want to consider that the plant isn%26#039;t necessarily growing upward, but it might be doing a whole bunch under the soil. Since plant roots are what feed it, maybe the plant is focusing its energy making sure it can sustain future grown by building its root system.
