Can anyone recommend a fertilizer for lily of the valley?

Mine are planted all around the base of a birch tree. There were already there when I bought my house %26gt;10 years ago. Over time then are thinning and not blooming as well as they used to. Any advise or ideas appreciated.

weed and feed
Reply:Sounds like the birch may be shading or its roots may be taking more of the moisture up. After 10 years the tree will grow larger and more shade is produced. You could try digging up the lily of the valley and separating the pips (fleshy roots) and replanting. I think an all purpose fertilizer, bone meal or bulb booster would work for fertilizer. If you dig up, add this to the soil before you replant. The time to fertilize is fall, but you could get away with an organic fertilizer or compost anytime. When you dig the pips be sure to replant them as soon as possible.
Reply:organic mulch
Reply:you must make a soil analysis first so that you can buy the right fertilizer. there is a kit for that. youcan buy it in your local garden shops
